Origin

The Lhundrup Ling Institute (LLI) was originally conceived for the purpose of preserving Tibetan Culture and Tradition as well as for the benefit of others.

As has been with Venerable Ontul Rinpoche’s experience, many wonderful lamas on exile from Tibet and with little knowledge of the English language, have been unable to find adequate translators to carefully andskilfully pass on their soughted wisdom. At the same time there are numerous people wanting to learn the

Tibetan Language such that one day they may be able to understand their teachers first hand and possibly even translate for them one day.

Also, in this degenerating age, the need for preservation of the Dharma is most important, especially of the teachings of the various schools.

It is for these reasons Ven. Ontul Rinpoche decided that an institute should be built in order to provide this schooling.

Tibetan Buddhist Language and Philosophy Schools

There are few good Tibetan Language and Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy schools world-wide and there is a requirement and demand for more. Most of these schools only deal with either language or philosophy and even fewer deal with the various schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Saying that, most of them have been running successfully for years.

LLI

LLI is unique in it’s own right. It will be one of the first schools to provide short-term intense training courses in Modern Standard Tibetan and Tibetan Buddhism Language in the Summer, and short-term intense training courses in Tibetan Buddhism from Drikung Kagyu , Sakya, Nyingma, Kagyu and Gelup traditions.

Using the latest in understand of mind processing, LLI’s courses will employ accelerated techniques to teach one year’s worth of study in two month courses.

Each full program will span over four to five years. Implementing the Language course to run over the summer months, the school will be able to provide facilities for students in long-term study programs or committed to other activities giving them access to a full-time, full-length programs without having to devote themselves year-round.

LLI in Tsopema

LLI in Tsopema, will be a high-quality intensive program in basic, intermediate and advanced Tibetan and Tibetan Buddhist language study for the serious language student. Some of the top teachers will bring to this effort more than two decades of leadership in the study of intensive "total immersion" language programs in the United Kingdom. To this experience is added the ultimate Tibetan Language Environment—the local Tibetan Community of Tsopema.

Over the last four decades, this style of education has been developed and proved by Princeton University (Chinese Language Program) whom have aslo established their own distinctive pedagogy while developing a series of language textbooks based on the belief that a strong foundation with an emphasis on accurate pronunciation and grammar is absolutely necessary for language mastery.

The "total immersion" approach includes such special features as: a student pledge to speak no language other than Tibetan Language throughout the session; individual tutorial sessions in the afternoons; contact with faculty at meals and in campus life; and special lectures on aspects of Tibet Studies. The LLI in Tsopema will provide students with an intensive learning atmosphere within the natural language environment of Tsopema.

Looking to work in association of full-time programs across the globe, at the conclusion of the program, students will be awarded eight credits from a University and a certificate from LLI in Tsopema Institute.

Any donations are always humbly and gratefully accepted and they always take us one step closer to realisation. A total of $350,000 U.S. dollars is needed for the full project. However, the school can be underway for it’s first year of teachings with $150,000 U.S.

May all mother sentient beings, boundless as the space, have happiness and the causes of happiness.
May they be liberated from suffering and the causes of suffering.
May they never be separated from the happiness which is free from sorrow.
May they rest in equanimity, free from attachment and aversion.
